The Windsor-Essex Pride Fest has received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

An announcement was made on Friday, November 18 by Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie and Windsor Pride Fest President Wendi Nicholson that they would be getting $49,200 in funding over the next year.

Funds will aid in COVID-19 relief and go towards programs and services, for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie says the main purpose of the funds is for COVID-19 relief.

“We understand organizations have had a lot of costs and a lot of impediments to their normal operations. There is a special stream to enable that recovery of the different organizations and help assist given the time of need.”

Windsor Pride Fest President Wendi Nicholson says they went through many hardships during the pandemic.

She says many of their programs were held online.

“We did continue to have programs and they weren’t as well attended as if we had them in person but we made it through.”

The money will assist with facility operations, provide program facilitation, technology improvement office space, rent, activity space, utilities and more.
