Windsor-Essex Pride Fest names high-profile ambassadors

From the Windsor Star

Fitness expert and author Craig Ramsay and IMPACT Wrestling star Gisele Shaw have been named Ambassadors of Pride for this year’s Windsor-Essex Pride Fest.

The event will take place from Aug. 2 to 13.

An Ambassador of Pride is an individual who promotes a world that is more equitable, diverse and inclusive. The annual celebration of 2SLGBTQIA+ people during Windsor-Essex Pride Fest includes a variety of events.

“Uniting people in a celebrative atmosphere that welcomes all goes a long way in promoting equality and mutual understanding,” said David Lenz, treasurer for Windsor-Essex Pride Fest. “Craig and Gisele are inspiring in how they each champion this belief.”

Ramsay, who was born in Harrow, has performed in major theatrical productions and appeared in film and TV productions. Ramsay and friend Catherine Wreford took first place recently in CTV’s The Amazing Race Canada.

“I am so proud to call Windsor-Essex my home and honoured to be a 2023 Ambassador of Pride,” Ramsay said.

“I am also proud to support the great work that Windsor-Essex Pride Fest does for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Windsor-Essex and look forward to seeing everyone at the events.”

Shaw is a popular star of pro wrestling and appears weekly in matches that are televised around the world. Last year, she publicly disclosed she is transgender. She was a guest speaker and grand marshal with Pride Toronto and speaker at the Trans Rally & March.

Shaw has been living in Windsor the last two years and encourages all to live their life with acceptance.

“I’m honoured, excited and proud to be named,” Shaw said. “This is my hometown. I was so nervous before disclosing, but I couldn’t be happier with the worldwide love and support I have received.

“Hopefully, I can help others on their personal journey.”
