Volunteer Code of Conduct
Windsor-Essex Pride Fest aims to provide an environment that supports individual freedom while promoting individual responsibility, health and safety, and community welfare.
To ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants, volunteers, staff and board members of our events, Windsor-Essex Pride Fest has established the following Code of Conduct:
Participation
Working as a team requires everyone to be communicative, present and on time. There will be a mandatory Orientation meeting on Sunday, July 19, 2026 and Tuesday, July 21, 2026. If you are unable to make this date, or will be late or absent for your volunteer shift, notify your team lead as far in advance as possible.
Equipment
Some volunteer roles require the use of tools, materials or equipment. These items must be signed out and returned at the end of your shift.
Language
Windsor-Essex Pride Fest is an inclusive event and volunteers are expected to be mindful of their speech. Inappropriate, expletive, profane, obscene, violent or discriminatory language is not acceptable.
Confidentiality
We want Windsor-Essex Pride Fest to be a space where everyone can feel free and safe being their truest self. Volunteers must not photograph, film, or disclose any individual’s presence at or involvement with the festival without their explicit permission.
Substances
On-duty volunteers may not be under the influence of any substance, legal or otherwise. Possession, use, and/or distribution of controlled or illegal substances at any Windsor-Essex Pride Fest official event is strictly prohibited. Where appropriate or necessary, we will cooperate fully with law enforcement.
Smoking or vaping is not allowed on festival grounds and must take place nine or more metres outside of any exit or entrance.
Harassment/Assault
Harassment or assault is intentional non-consensual verbal or physical conduct that threatens, offends, humiliates or harms a person. This includes touching, restraining, punching, pushing, or spitting, as well as any words or gestures that jeopardize someone’s safety. This unacceptable, unlawful conduct will not be tolerated.
Sexual Harassment/Assault
Sexual harassment or assault is intentional non-consensual behaviour of a sexual or gender-related nature that causes offense, humiliation, or safety concerns. It can be verbal, physical or virtual. This includes sexual advances, requests for sexual favours, touching, display of sexual images, jokes, comments or implications. This unacceptable, unlawful conduct will not be tolerated.
Consequences
Depending on the severity of the issue, appropriate consequences will be applied. This may include: warnings, change in position, being asked not to return, immediate dismissal, permanent banning or the involvement of law enforcement.
Conclusion
When you are wearing a volunteer shirt and lanyard, remember that you are representing Windsor-Essex Pride Fest. Do your very best to act in a way that demonstrates our values. Be aware of the basic locations of amenities such as the restrooms, food vendors, stage, etc.
If approached, be kind and helpful and direct them to the appropriate area. If you don’t know, ask your team lead.
We thank you for your commitment and for volunteering your time to support the Windsor-Essex Pride Fest.
