There’ll be no parade or big party, and even the flag-raising ceremony required physical distancing measures — but Windsor-Essex Pride Fest is still happening for 2020.

The annual celebration of LGBTQ2S+ (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer Two-Spirited) members of the community takes place this weekend.

However, COVID-19 concerns have made many of the usual Pride festivities impractical or impossible — and so celebrants are being invited to join a “virtual festival” on the Pride Fest website.

Wendi Nicholson, new president of Windsor-Essex Pride Fest, said she’ll be missing “the thousands of people that have been coming out and joining us in the last couple of years.”

“It’s just part of life,” Nichloson said after raising the rainbow flag at Charles Clark Square on Friday afternoon.

Almost all of Pride Fest 2020 will happen via Zoom workshops and Facebook live events, accessible from the Pride Fest website.
